The Noble Quran

https://www.khutbah.info/the-noble-quran/ Allah Almighty revealed the Quran a light whose illumination does not turn off. And a lamp whose fire is not extinguished. A way that those following it do not go astray. And might that those supporting it are not defeated. For it is the material of Iman (faith) and the fountain of knowledge. And a sea that is not depleted by those who draw from it.  And an infinite spring for those who take from it.  Allah Almighty made it a quencher for the thirst of scholars. And a spring for the hearts of the wise. And a medicine after which there is no disease. It is Allah’s firm rope, the wise reminder and straight path. It has the narratives of those before. And the news of those after them.  And a criterion. It is the truth and not amusement. And with the truth He sent it, and with the truth it descended. Whoever acts upon it is rewarded. And whoever judges by it is just. And whoever calls to it is guided to the straight path. Whoever asks for guidance from it, Allah will honor him. And whoever seeks guidance from other than it, Allah Almighty will disgrace him. Through it, Allah Almighty raises people and lowers others. And it will come as an intercessor for its people on the Day of Judgement. The Prophet ﷺ said:

Verily, all praise is for Allah. We praise Him, we seek His assistance and we ask for His forgiveness. And we seek refuge in Him from the evils of our selves. Whoever Allah guides, none can misguide. Whoever He misguides, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity other than Allah and I bear witness that Mohammad is His slave and messenger.

Al Imran 102 : O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam.

Oh people:

Allah Almighty revealed the Quran a light whose illumination does not turn off.

Whoever recites a letter from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter. [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2910]

Indeed, the Book of Allah Almighty is like the soul for life and light for guidance. Whoever does not recite it and act upon it is not truly alive, they are dead, whether they speak or act, or come and go. And whoever does not believe in it has strayed, and is not guided, regardless if they soar into the heavens or dive into the depths of the ocean!

Allah Almighty said:

Al Anam (6) 122: And is one who was dead and We gave him life and made for him light by which to walk among the people like one who is in darkness, never to emerge therefrom?

A person without Quran is like life without water and air. Rather, he ails within his senses and within himself. This is because the Quran is the medicine and the cure.

Allah Almighty said:

Al Isra (17) 82: And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.

And Allah Almighty said:

Fusilat (41) 44: Say, “It is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure.” And those who do not believe – in their ears is deafness, and it is upon them blindness.

And perhaps distress smothers a person. And fear permeates his conscious.  And his pain intensifies, so he finds nothing that comforts him more than some verses that he repeatedly recites from the Quran.

Allah Almighty said:

Al Isra (17) 45: And when you recite the Quran, We put between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed partition.

And Allah Almighty said:

Al Imran 173-175: (173) Those to whom people [i.e., hypocrites] said, “Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.” But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs.”(174) So they returned with favor from Allah and bounty, no harm having touched them. And they pursued the pleasure of Allah, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty. (175) That is only Satan who frightens [you] of his supporters. So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers.

A Muslim is astonished by the stance of many people in front of the Book of Allah Almighty while they have been surrounded by darkness from every direction. And flounder aimlessly without direction.  And many communities have been devastated.

It is truly astonishing that they have the light between their hands, yet they still follow the footsteps of the misguided in every path and way, unable to find a path to guidance.

The reality, is that the people of disbelief and atheism have distracted Muslims from their light and source of honor. They have beguiled them with the mirage of worldly ideologies at times, and with secular sciences at other times. And through wealth, family, and power at other times. And through an ethical and cultural storm conveyed through various media captivating the eyes of Muslims and their communities, except for those to whom Allah shows mercy.

Allah Almighty said:

Ar Rum (30) 7: They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware.

Some Muslims have neglected the Book of their Lord to the extent that some of them may recite the entire Quran but emerge from it just as they entered with no understanding of its meanings whatsoever! Some Muslims have reduced their relationship with the Quran to merely perfecting the pronunciation of its letters. It is recited at funerals, framed in living rooms, used for seeking wealth and status, hung as an amulet around necks and worn on chests!

Omar, may Allah be pleased with him, said, O people! There was time when I thought that whoever recites the Quran seeks only Allah and nothing else. But I have been told that there are people who recite the Quran seeking what people have. So, seek the pleasure of Allah through your recitation and your actions.

Allah has sent down the Quran from above the seven heavens for contemplation and reflecting, not merely for reciting it while the heart is distracted and heedless.Allah Almighty said:

Sad (38) 29: [This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.

Allah Almighty said:

Al Mu’minun (23) 68: Then have they not reflected over the word [i.e., the Qur’ān], or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?

Allah Almighty said:

An Nisa (4) 82: Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’ān? If it had been from [any] other than Allāh, they would have found within it much contradiction.

Allah Almighty said:

Mohammad (47) 24: Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’ān, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?

Al Hasan Al Basry, may Allah have mercy on him, said that the Quran was sent down for contemplating and acting upon it. So recite it and act upon it.

Allah Almighty said:

Al Hadid (57) 16: Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient.

Ibn Masood, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

Four years did not pass between Allah’s reproach of us through this verse and my reversion to Islam. [Muslim 3027]

Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: Indeed, Allah saw the hearts of believers lag, so He rebuked them thirteen years from when the Quran was sent down.

So what is wrong with our hearts?! What is this hard heartedness when reciting the words of Allah?! What are these locks on the hearts?! Admonitions are recited, lessons are heard, and Surahs are read, but they enter from the right ear and exit from the left! Who among us wept when reciting Surah Al-Haaqqa?! Who trembled when he heard Surah Az-Zalzalah?! Who repented the day he recited Surah Al-Qiyamah?! What is this veil over the hearts?! Have our hearts become harder than stone?! Indeed, if this Quran were to be sent down upon a mountain, it would humble itself and split asunder out of fear of Allah! But the hearts have hardened. Allah Almighty said:

Al Baqarah (2) 74: Being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allāh. And Allāh is not unaware of what you do.

We seek refuge in Allah from hardness of the heart and heedlessness.

I say what you have heard and I seek forgiveness from Allah for me and you from every sin. So seek forgives from Him, Verily He is Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

Second Khutbah

All praise is to Allah, and peace and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and I bear witness that there is no deity other than Allah and I bear witness that Mohammad is His slave and messenger.

Oh Muslims:

There is nothing more beneficial to a person in this life and hereafter, and to their salvation and happiness than contemplating the Quran and looking at it for a long time. And pondering upon the meanings of its verses. It informs its reciter of the meanings of good and evil and the condition of its people. And shows the reality of this worldly life. And presents the previous communities. It describes Allah’s punishment of them. So one sees the drowning of the people of Noah. And learns of the thunderbolt that struck Aad and Thamud, and the drowning of Pharaoh and the swallowing up of Qarun.

By contemplating the Qur’an, a person lives with the hereafter as if they are in it, and is absent from this world as if they are out of it. So, unlike others, they have a lofty concern and pursuit. Allah Almighty said:

Az Zumar (39) 23: Allāh has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance [i.e., mention] of Allāh.

Oh Allah, make the Great Quran the wellspring of our hearts and the light of our chests. And the banisher of our worries and the reliever of our sorrows. And our driver and guide to You and to Your Gardens of Bliss. Indeed You are All Hearing, Answering.

I conclude with this and send prayers of blessings and peace upon your Prophet as your Lord commanded:

Al Ahzaab (33) 56: Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [ Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [ Allah to grant him] peace.

O Allah, guide us with those whom You have guided, grant us well-being among those You have granted well-being, be an ally to us along with those whom You are an ally to, and bless what You have bestowed upon us, and save us from the evil of what You have decreed.  For verily You decree and none can decree over You. He whom You support can never be humiliated. Glory is to You, our Lord, You are Blessed and Exalted.

O Allah, We ask You for all that is good, in this world and in the Hereafter, what we know and what we do not know. O Allah, we seek refuge with You from all evil, in this world and in the Hereafter, what we know and what we do not know. O Allah, we ask You for the good that Your servant and Prophet has asked You for, and we seek refuge with You from the evil from which Your servant and Prophet sought refuge. O Allah, we ask You for Paradise and for that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed, and we seek refuge in You from Hell and from that which brings one closer to it, in word and deed. And we ask You to make every decree that You decree concerning us good

Servants of Allah. Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.

Remember Allah, the Great – He will remember you. Thank Him for His favors – He will increase you therein.  And seek forgiveness from Him – He will forgive you. And be conscious of Him – He will provide you a way out of difficult matters. And, establish the prayer.
